Freeman was a regular for the reserves in the 2010–11 season. Since Steve McClaren's appointment as manager of Nottingham Forest, Freeman has played in the midfield in the clubs pre-season matches and has impressed McClaren with his composure on the ball and strong decision making.
He made his first professional appearance for Forest on 22 August 2011 in the second round of the Football League Cup during a 4–1 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.[2]
On 4 November 2011 Freeman joined Conference National club Mansfield Town on an emergency loan deal,[3][4] which was later extended.[5]
